How the program benefits
players:
There are many areas that can be improved with a weight-training
workout specific to a position player's needs. First, you should
see improved bat speed and power potential. With our in-season program
you should feel as quick and strong at the end of the season as
you do at the start. Second, my weight program is designed to give
you greater strength and flexibility which will aid in efforts for
injury prevention. With exercises specific to the sport, you will
see a stronger arm and increased range in the field.
How the program benefits pitchers:
My weight-training program for pitchers is probably different
than anyone else's in the country. It goes against most people's
beliefs on what pitchers should and should not do. But based on
the success pitchers at Wichita State University have had in the
past 16 years, people will understand that there are other ways
to train pitchers to get the desired results.
The number one thing that most pitchers are concerned with is velocity
improvement. This is an area that we have had excellent results
with. But just as important as high velocity is endurance.
Endurance is important in two areas. First, you need to sustain
your average first inning velocity into at least the sixth or seventh
inning. Second, you must be as strong at the end of the season
as you were at the beginning of the year. A good weight-training
program will do these things, as well as helping to improve recovery
time and decrease injury possibilities.
Excerpt from
Collegiate Baseball
"Kerry Rosenboom, in conjunction with his web
designer, has put together a spectacular site which zeroes in on
the subject of weight training for baseball and nothing else.
It features either a pitchers' workout or a position
players' workout.
...
A personalized weight-training program will be created
and sent back to you. Then you can view and print out your
program from the web site.
...
All of the exercises have video examples to show you the
proper technique for each exercise.
...
Rosenboom stresses that you never sacrifice technique
to lift heavier weight. When you can get all your repetitions
and sets in good form, then you can increase the weight. Several
other important weight training safety tips are also explained
by Rosenboom."
